Welcome to the First Ever Mishupishu North Lakes Rallye!
The
Minnesota Land Rover Club is hosting a two-part, International Expedition and Weekend Off-Road event. Join us for either part, or join us for both!
If you love your Rover, the outdoors and adventure, this is the event to put on your calendars this August.
MISHUPISHU: The Great Horned Underwater Lynx

Lake Superior's own version of the Loch Ness Monster, Mishupishu frequently comes up in Ojibwe indian folklore. It's unkown whether the rock drawings of Mishupishu are meant to get the attention of other indians, or if they are messages sent to the spirit world. We are assuming they are messages sent to Rover Enthusiasts, in a sort of spiritual guarantee of safe passage around Lake Superior, the world's largest freshwater lake...
Because of its mysterious and adventurous legend, Mishupishu has earned its honored place as the mascot for the Mishupishu North Lakes Rallye.
Fair Warning: If you see any live animals that
Look Like This, get a couple of pictures, then run! The legend doesn't say whether or not it bites, and we don't want to lose anyone!
THE MAIN ATTRACTION: Weekend of Wheeling on the Iron Range
The Rallye will be a weekend of wheeling and other activities based at a picturesque campground a few hundred yards from the Iron Range Off Highway Vehicle Recreation Area in Gilbert, MN, overlooking Lake Ore-Be-Gone.
Kids, dogs, spouses – bring ‘em all (as long as they’re relatively well behaved)! Camping and events such as Saturday night's potluck, bonfire and raffle will be at the
Sherwood Forest Campground. We have reserved several spots for the weekend, and if it fills, there is another campground nearby. See our
How To Prepare page for camping and hotel info.
The park is set in an old 1,200 acre iron-ore mine that closed its doors in 1981. The Minnesota DNR has worked closely with wheeling clubs in the state to put together a unique trail system with every level of challenge, pushing every driver's ability to finesse and/or force their way through. From sissy-level (green-laning) all the way up to serious edge-clinging, grown man teary-eyed terrifying, the park has it all.
Try not to get so wrapped up in the wheeling that you miss the views...
THE BONUS ADVENTURE: Lake Superior Circle Tour

Circle the largest of the Great Lakes in a Rover caravan! This international trek will depart from Duluth, MN, on Sunday, August 3, and culminate in our triumphant arrival at the Gilbert OHV park the following Friday to start off a weekend of wheeling with other Roveristas. Geared toward the Series driver, the caravan will move as fast as the slowest truck, affording Series owners well over 1,000 miles to enjoy their driving goggles, jaunty scarves, and general wind-blown disposition. Feel free to drive a Rangie, LR3, or any other Rover, but don't expect to sail down the highway much faster than... well, a 1960's farm utility vehicle?
Along the way, we will travel in the areas of such beautiful cities as Bayport, Wi, Copper Harbor, MI, Marathon, Pancake Bay, Wawa, Nipigon, and Thunder Bay, Ontario. Most of our nightly camping will be done at State or National parks with services, but our last night on the expedition, after a day of waterfall and wheeling exploration in Nipigon, Ontario, will be - yikes - primitive.
Primitive, that is, with the exception of the
Iron Chef Trail Food Cook-off! That's right - put your best trail recipe on the line for a chance to win the coveted title: Mishupishu Master Chef. Will there be prizes? Will it be worth your best efforts? You Bet! Our ever-growing list of sponsors are excited to help us make the first annual MNLR an event to remember!
This Is An International Event! We will be crossing in to Canada.
